Writing with History

Over the years, we have encouraged our customers to use Institues for Excellence in Writing's curriculum: Teaching Writing: Structure and Style. This excellent writing program encourages the student to imitate good writing by taking notes, re-writing paragraphs, and adding stylistic techniques that make even the youngest student's writing sound eloquent. The only difficulty people have with this curriculum is that it is hard to implement.

We are so excited to offer a solution: a companion guide to Teaching Writing: Structure and Style. This guide, Writing with History, includes 36 weeks of step-by step lessons, taking you through the concepts taught in the IEW curriculum. Each lesson breaks down these concepts so the teacher can either lead the younger student through the lessons or encourage the older student to work more independently. Each guide is integrated with the history topics covered in the Easy Classical history schedule. Each lesson within the guide includes a paragraph summarizing the history readings scheduled each week. The student uses these summaries to write their "three-word outline" and summary with "dress-ups." Each paragraph incorporates the concepts taught in IEW, which serves as an example to the student of the stylistic techniques they can add to their own writing. Gone are the days when teaching writing gets neglected because it is too hard to implement, or a summary paragraph is too time-consuming to find.
